Springfield Chiropractic Center: Frequently Asked Questions

Questions & Answers from Your Trusted Chiropractor in Springfield, NJ

At the Springfield Chiropractic Center, we know that starting a new health journey comes with a lot of questions. Whether you're considering chiropractic care for the first time or have already experienced the transformative results of our care, we want you to feel informed and confident every step of the way. Below, you'll find answers to some of the most common questions our patients ask.

Who can benefit from chiropractic care?

Spine and hip problems can happen to anyone at any age, and cause a variety of symptoms and health conditions.  In our office, we treat both adults and children.

What is an "adjustment" and do they hurt?

An adjustment is a term for a chiropractic treatment that restores the normal function of a joint (usually the spine), muscles and the nervous system.  Most of the time, adjustments do not hurt.  In fact, many of our patients experience instant relief following an adjustment.  In our office, we perform several different types of chiropractic adjustments to gently correct problems with the bones, joints, discs, muscles, and nerves.

Why should I see a chiropractor?

Drugs, injections, and surgery are not always the right choice for you and your family.  Many times medications simply "cover up" the problem.  In addition, medications that are taken inappropriately or for too long, can have very serious side effects.

Chiropractic is different.  Our doctors offer a safe alternative for the treatment of many health conditions.  By restoring proper alignment, movement and balance to your body we are able to resolve your health condition and enable your body to heal naturally.

What can I expect during my first visit?

On your first visit, we’ll sit down with you to discuss your health history, symptoms, and goals. Then we’ll do a full evaluation to understand what’s going on. If chiropractic care is right for you, we may begin treatment that day, order imaging (such as an x-ray) or schedule a follow-up for your first chiropractic adjustment.

Can you have pain or discomfort after a chiropractic treatment?

Yes, it's completely normal for some patients to experience mild discomfort or soreness for a day or two after a treatment. In fact, temporary soreness is the most common side effect. Our treatments often include deep tissue work, alignment corrections, stretching, and therapeutic exercises—all of which can lead to short-term discomfort as your body adjusts.

Rest assured, this is a normal and healthy part of the healing process, and a sign that your body is beginning to respond and recover.

Do I have to get my spine "cracked"?

No.  We offer many different types of treatments.  For those patients who choose not to receive spinal manipulation (the treatment that makes the cracking noise), we have very effective alternative treatments to get the results you need without the "cracking" sound.

Can you go to the chiropractor two or more days in a row?

Yes.  Depending on your healthcare needs and scheduling situation, a patient may choose to see a chiropractor for two or more days in a row.

How long will it take until I feel better?

Everyone is different, but many of our patients start to feel relief after just one or two treatments.  The time it takes to see results depends on a lot of different factors.  For those patients with long standing or severe problems, it may take longer than those with a minor ache or discomfort.  Please know that we will do everything we can to get you feeling better as quickly and effectively as possible.

Once I start with chiropractic care do I have to go forever?

Absolutely Not.  There are many different reasons people seek our care.  You and your doctor will decide on a treatment plan geared specifically to meet your healthcare needs.

Do you treat pregnant women?

Yes.  During pregnancy, stress and pressure can build in the low back.  This pressure can cause low back pain and sciatica.  Using gentle alignment and massage techniques, our doctors are able to relieve this pressure and reduce or eliminate back pain and sciatica.

If I have had spinal surgery can I still see a chiropractor?

Yes—many people who have had spinal surgery can still benefit from chiropractic care. We understand that you may have concerns, and we take them seriously. Our doctors are highly trained to work with patients who have complex spinal histories, including surgical procedures.

Before beginning any treatment, we perform a careful evaluation and review your medical history to ensure your care is safe, gentle, and specifically tailored to your needs. Your comfort and safety are always our top priorities, and we’ll take the time to answer your questions and walk you through each step of the process.

Do I need to have an x-ray or MRI?

Imaging is ordered when your doctor feels that it is necessary.  Not all patients will need imaging, but if the doctor gives you a prescription for imaging, have it done as soon as possible.  If you have had previous imaging, bring it with you on your first visit.

Do I need a referral?

No.  Simply call our office or schedule by clicking the "BOOK APPOINTMENT NOW" button on our website.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes.  We accept most major health insurance plans and are in-network preferred providers for Aetna and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
